Welcome, I’m Chiedza

You may have a very clear reason for seeking counselling. Or perhaps you want a safe space to explore issues in your life.

Chiedza is a Shona name meaning ‘light’. At times we can all feel stuck, frightened, alone or angry. Counselling offers the space and time to shine a light on your life to help you make sense of your situation and find new paths forward.

I became a counsellor after a 15-year career in the corporate world. During that time I found myself increasingly drawn to supporting others and understanding their unique experiences. I have gained a range of experience working in different roles counselling and supporting those with a variety of lived experiences, including:

  • relational trauma and difficulties (childhood and adulthood experiences)

  • low self-esteem/ low confidence

  • family & relationship issues

  • sexual and emotional abuse

  • post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • anxiety

  • depression and low mood

  • stress & burn out

  • bereavement

  • struggling with emotional regulation/ intense emotions

I offer an integrative approach to therapy. This simply means that I work with you to explore which therapeutic approach will be most beneficial at that particular moment in time. Each client is unique and my therapeutic approach always reflects this. I will learn about current difficulties and your therapy goals, and from this point we will decide together the approach that is most appropriate. I always work relationally which means that together we will build a relationship that offers safety and security needed for you to feel empowered to bring your true voice.

Working with people from different backgrounds, cultural and social, is something I embrace. My personal experience of being a mixed heritage woman had lead me to focus on working effectively and compassionately with people with a range of diverse background. We all have a unique identity and I work in a way that allows this to be a central part of our work together.

My APPROACH

I have over five years of experience in psychotherapy, I have had the privilege of supporting many individuals on their journey toward greater self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. My practice is rooted in a commitment to client empowerment, shaped by my previous experience of working as a mental health advocate. This work has deeply informed my non-judgmental approach, respect for diverse experiences, and dedication to fostering a safe, collaborative therapeutic space.

I am completing my clinical training as a Counselling Psychologist and due to qualify in 2025. Currently, alongside private practice, I work part time as a psychologist within the NHS secondary care mental health setting, providing evidence-based interventions for individuals with complex needs.

I have been trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural approaches (CBT). My practice also incorporates specific therapeutic approaches including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My training enables me to tailor interventions to the unique needs of each client.

I have specific experience and training in working with trauma. A trauma-informed approach is central to my work, allowing me to support clients who have experienced a wide range of experiences.
